Cool Kids Program Educational Case Management Newcastle Health Services

Cool Kids

Cool Kids is a 10-session program aimed at treating anxiety in children and teens. It uses a cognitive behavioural approach which means that it focuses on teaching skills to manage anxiety and is suitable for those aged between 7 – 12 years of age.

Core skills include:

• how to identify anxious thoughts, feelings, and behaviours,
• discovering realistic thoughts and expectations (detective thinking), and,
• gradually building independence and confidence by facing fears (stepladders).

If needed, additional skills such as problem-solving, social confidence and relaxation can be introduced to help manage difficult situations. Parents are shown how to support their child in the use of these new skills and a section of the program focuses specifically on parenting strategies that encourage children to self-manage anxiety.

This program is offered via ZOOM AND face to face at the same time – participants can chose if they would like to attend face to face or via ZOOM.

The Cool Kids Program is designed for children:

• 7 – 12 for Cool Kids

Cool Kids is held on Wednesday afternoons in term 2 & 4 of 2022 from 4pm (for Cool Kids) and 5pm (for Chilled Cool Kids).

There is also parent education for both Cool Kids and Chilled Cool Kids run via zoom on allocated weeks at 5:50pm.
